Ask a friend: Facebook and Uber launch new partnership Facebook and Uber announced a partnership on Dec. 16, 2015. FACEBOOK. Need a ride? Just ask a friend. An old-fashioned way of getting around is getting a modern facelift as Facebook and Uber launch a new partnership.Soon, users in select U.S. cities can request a ride by booking it from the Messenger app. The idea is that people who coordinate plans with Messenger will be able to book a car without switching apps.It will also let Facebook import and save Uber users’ payment information, a feature that users will be able to opt out of. Uber is promoting the deal by offering the first ride for free, up to $20.However, it’s not yet known when – or if – the feature will come to Canada. With files from CNN and 680 NEWS, Toronto.
