He has been competing with Tua Tagovailoa for the starting job, but is widely expected to lose out to the rising sophomore.Hurts recently spoke candidly about the competition, and his comments drew some backlash from Alabama fans. By all accounts, Hurts is still well-liked by teammates and coaches, but this has got to be tough for him.Florida Atlantic head coach Lane Kiffin is Hurts’ former offensive coordinator at Alabama. Kiffin knows a lot about dealing with outside pressure, criticism and just about everything else you can think of.This afternoon, Kiffin had some words of encouragement for his former pupil. He shared an article on Twitter titled “How 10 High Achievers Handle Haters” along with a message to Hurts.“Best article ever!!! #4 Thanks for sending it to me @Forbes Great one for u too @JalenHurts Be u and don’t listen to all the experts! #SECplayeroftheyear! He would have no shortage of suitors.Wonder if Kiffin would be interested in bringing him to Boca Raton?
