first_img Johns Hopkins University JH at WhiteMarsh CO Collection Specialist Share You need to sign in or create an account to save Twitter Maryland, United States Salary Not Specified Generalsummary/purpose:Responsible for the collections of unpaid medical insurance claims,and follow up on unpaid medical claims, as well as appealing theseclaims.Note: This position is noteligible for visa sponsorship.Specific dutiesand responsibilities:Uses system collectionreports, such as: aged trial balances, data search reports, and thePaperless Collection System (PCS) to identify unpaid claims forcollection/appeals.Communicates withthird-party payers, patients, physicians, and other parties toresolve unpaid claims.Reviews and updatespatient registration information (demographic and insurance) on IDXas needed.Utilizes PCS to processA/R. Works PCS files to completion.Applies appropriatediscounts/courtesies based on department policy.Prints and mails claimforms and statements according to the follow-up matrix. Retrievessupporting documents (medical reports, authorizations, etc.) asneeded and submits to third-party payers.Identifies and informs theSupervisor/Production Unit Manager of issues or problems associatedwith non-payment of claims.Appeals rejected claimsand claims with low reimbursement.Identifies and informsmanagement of systems or operational issues affecting collections,reimbursement and/or day in accounts receivable.Processes third-partypayer correspondence for resolution and/or payment ofclaims.Researches and resolveProduction Unit posting errors during the month.Performs miscellaneousrelated duties and special projects as assigned.Minimumqualifications (mandatory):High schooldiploma/GED.1 year of medical billingexperience.Knowledge of medicalterminology, CPT codes and ICD-9 codes.Preferredqualifications:Two years relatedexperience.Ability to use variousbilling and patient information computer systems.Knowledge of various payerprocessing and submission guidelines.Experience in IDX and PCS.Knowledge of third party payer requirements.Specialknowledge, skills, and abilities:Proficiency with IBMpersonal computers to include Word, spread sheeting in either Lotusor Excel and possible database experience.Capable of meetingdeadlines and focusing on details.Has excellent customerservice and communication skills, ability to diffuse difficultsituations in a complex environment.Has good understanding ofthird party reimbursement policies and protocols.ClassifiedTitle:Collection SpecialistRole/Level/Range: ATO 40/E/02/OC Starting Salary Range:$13.36 – $18.41 per hourEmployee group: Full Time Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:30 AM – 5 PM Exempt Status: Non-ExemptLocation: 16-MD:JH at White Marsh Department name: 10003011-SOM Ortho Production Unit BillingPersonnel area: School of MedicineThe successful candidate(s) for this position will be subject toa pre-employment background check.If you are interested in applying for employment with The JohnsHopkins University and require special assistance or accommodationduring any part of the pre-employment process, please contact theHR Business Services Office atjhurecruitment@jhu.edu.
