first_imgPosition SummaryThe Department of Computer Science and Engineering ( CSE ) atUniversity at Buffalo (UB) invites candidates to apply for thepositions of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or FullProfessor. We are particularly looking for candidates who canoperate effectively in a team environment and in a diversecommunity of students and faculty and share our vision of helpingall constituents reach their full potential.The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at thegraduate and undergraduate levels, mentor graduate students, advisestudents at all levels and maintain an active research program. Thesuccessful candidate for an Associate Professor or Full Professorposition should have a record of scholarly accomplishments,teaching experience and a sustained externally funded researchprogram. All areas of research expertise that complement theexisting research strengths in the department will be considered.Preference will be given to candidates in the following areas: (1)Software Systems broadly defined (including Database Systems,Distributed Systems, Programming Languages, Operating Systems,);(2) Emerging Computing Systems broadly defined (including EdgeComputing, Cloud Computing, High Performance Computing, MobileComputing, Computer Networks, and Quantum Computing). Other areasincluding Cybersecurity, Cyber Physical Systems, Data Analytics andInternet-of-Things will also be considered.The Department of Computer Science and Engineering ( CSE ) offersBS degrees in computer science (accredited by the ComputingAccreditation Commission of ABET,, and incomputer engineering (accredited by the Engineering AccreditationCommission of ABET,, a combined 5-year BS-MSprogram, a minor in computer science, a Certificate inData-Intensive Computing, and several joint programs (BS inComputer Science/ MBA, BS in Computational Physics, BA in SocialSciences Interdisciplinary – Cognitive Science Concentration, BS inBioinformatics and Computational Biology – CSE concentration) aswell as MS and PhD programs in Computer Science &Engineering.The department currently has over 40 tenure-track faculty, 12teaching faculty and approximately 1,200 undergraduate majors, 550masters’ students and 160 PhD students. Over twenty junior facultymembers have been hired since 2010, and we are continuing toexpand. Two members of our faculty currently hold key universityleadership positions, and eight members of our faculty are IEEEand/or ACM Fellows. The department is well known for offeringexcellent collaborative and nurturing environment for faculty.Recently, a cohort of five junior faculty received the CAREER awardsin 2019, setting a national record.Our faculty members are actively involved in cutting-edge researchand successful interdisciplinary programs and centers devoted tobiometrics; bioinformatics; biomedical computing; computational anddata science and engineering; computer vision and multimediasystems; database systems; document analysis and recognition;programming languages; high performance computing; cybersecurity;embedded, networked and distributed systems; machine learning andartificial intelligence; connected and autonomous vehicles andsustainable transportation; and theory of computation. Our facultyhas excellent publication records over the years. Since 2015, thedepartment has moved up its rank to be among the top 40, and is among the top 25 in two recent years (2017and 2019).
