Vocalist Nicole Atkins has announced that she will hit the road in support of her 2017 album, Goodnight Rhonda Lee. While Atkins is currently on tour in Europe, in March, she will perform at the highly anticipated, 21-artist Music Of Led Zeppelin tribute at New York City’s Carnegie Hall on March 7th, followed by a one-off date at The Saint in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on March 9th. Her U.S. tour will officially begin on April 18th at Saturn in Birmingham, Alabama, and continue northward along the East Coast over the next two-and-a-half weeks, finally wrapping up at Bearsville Theater in Woodstock, New York, on May 5th.In addition to announcing her spring 2018 tour, Atkins has shared her official music video for Goodnight Rhonda Lee track “Brokedown Luck”. After panning across a host of strange characters, the video shows the now-sober Atkins get unwittingly dosed by an enigmatic old-time bartender, forcing the Nicole character to navigate the trippy treachery of this uncomfortable affair in Asbury Park. From nuns, to Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas characters, to Elvis Presley impersonators, to cleverly utilized puppetry, coloring, and lighting design, the video is a vivid depiction of an ominously uncomfortable evening out. Check it out below.Nicole Atkins – “Brokedown Luck” (Official Video)[Video: Nicole Atkins]The new video is appropriately wary of the potential danger of mind-altering substances. Goodnight Rhonda Lee marked Atkins’ first album since entering treatment for alcoholism. When the album came out, she explained to Rolling Stone that her direction had moved toward “soul” for this album at the (strong) suggestion of someone she met while in treatment. As she explained:There was a music producer in there. I won’t say who he is, but totally different style than me. A hip-hop guy. One day, he’s like, ‘Play me your stuff.’ He said, ‘You’re really good, but you need to stop fucking around with this indie-rock bullshit. You’re a soul singer. Just do what you do.’Atkins is also a frequent go-to guest vocalist in the jam scene, frequently collaborating onstage with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead in addition to sharing the stage with Umphrey’s McGee and more.See below for a full list of Nicole Atkins tour dates.
