first_imgJob DescriptionThe Division of Gastroenterology at Carilion Clinic is looking foran experienced Research Associate to work on translational researchprojects in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) led by the PI – DrDario Sorrentino – examining several aspects of prelinical Crohn’sdisease including capsule endoscopy screening of individuals atrisk, non invasive marker discovery, the role of microbiome indisease etiology, pathogenesis and early diagnosis. In addition,other ongoing projects will examine the role of stool markers ofinflammation in evaluating response to treatment and diseasemonitoring in IBD patients. Typically, the Research Associate willsupport the PI and the co-investigators in the performance ofvarious patient recruitment and technical activities as well assample collection, storage and multiple laboratory analyses(including microbial analyses). This role will report directly tothe PI and serve as part of the research team workingcollaboratively on several funded grants. Research supportresponsibilities are at a medium to advanced academic level.Required Qualifications• MS in biology, biochemistry or related field, and/or theequivalent/superior level of training and experience.• Experience in clinical investigator-initiated studies (patientscreening, recruitment, sample collection and storage).• Experience with biospecimen handling and processing.• Intermediate to advanced level laboratory skills (sampleprocessing/analysis, multiple cell and microbial laboratorytechniques).• Demonstrated data entry experience.• Demonstrated organizational skills and experience with datamanagement.• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced research/academic environmentwith multiple and variable duties.• Proficiency with scientific writing and excellent oralcommunication skills – previous publications and activeparticipation/organization of scientific meetings a plus.• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality andprofessionalism.Preferred Qualifications• Assessing research risks and potential corrective action• Project management• Experience with data analysis software (R, Matlab, SPSS,etc.)Appointment TypeRestrictedSalary InformationCommensurate with experienceReview Date1/15/2021Additional InformationThe successful Candidate will be required to have a criminalconviction check.About Virginia TechDedicated to its motto, Ut Prosim (That I May Serve),Virginia Tech pushes the boundaries of knowledge by taking ahands-on, transdisciplinary approach to preparing scholars to beleaders and problem-solvers. DONEGAL MAN ‘DEEPLY REGRETS’ HIT-AND-RUN BEACH INCIDENT, BARRISTER TELLS COURT

first_imgA 30-year-0ld Donegal man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty at Derry Crown Court to injuring a child and a woman in a hit-and-run incident on a Co Derry beach last year.Paul John Doherty, of Ballynahone, Fahan in Co. Donegal, pleaded guilty to seven charges relating to an incident in which a mother and her child were injured when struck by a red BMW on Benone Beach on 21 July.Doherty admitted two charges of dangerous driving on the beach and at Seacoast Road, Limavady.
